Resurgence

Sorry for being gone for a while. The reason for my long absence was due to my involvement in a summer enrichment program called Summer Bridge. This program helped familiarize me with the college I’ll be attending, SDSU (San Diego State University). I enjoyed my experiences and accustomed to managing an academic life and a social life. I spent at least 10 hours or more juggling classwork from two classes as well attending activities such kayaking at a beach or explore racial discrimination in a social justice group session. The program lasted for 31 days and feel like a better person from being involved in it. No doubt I will be prepared for when I’ll enter my real college setting on August 29th.

Since I feel bad for missing out on posting tutorials and other things. I’ll post some tutorials/tips this week on.

I fixed the logo up a bit from last time and changed the flier design as well. I’ve also worked on translations for this flier which include Arabic and Spanish translation. Click the flier thumbnail to see the Arabic translation. I’ll also be getting paid for my efforts.

Since typing Arabic in Illustrator gave me such a huge hassle. I’ll post in a tip on how to bring in Arabic text into Illustrator.

iParent 2011Poster and Logo

You may have noticed this bears a very similar design to the Got Plans? poster and this is due to my Got Plans? poster not being chosen as the best design choice. Since I was working on another poster for people that also managed Got Plans?, they wanted me to use the Got Plans? poster design for the iParent. I was working over the summer and met with my clients to discuss further changes to the poster. Thus, I implemented design changes such as the raffle tickets, large text/papers, placement of objects, etc. I was also asked to make a logo if it was possible. So here are the current drafts of the poster and logo.

Graduation

As I graduated high school and get ready for college (San Diego State University) next, I hold dear to my word that I will still try to keep my blog updated with more tutorials and other content. This is one of my legacies dedicated to Valhalla and the Mac Lab.

I was enjoying much of my summer vacation so far yet still I want to keep my blog updated. So I will post more experiments and tutorials for the next days/weeks.

Currently, I am also working on an iParent poster over the summer and hope to finish it soon.

District Art Show

I finished and submitted this piece to the art show. Hopefully I can win another prize like the last one from 2008.

Re: Senior

Not only did I redo the buttons from Junior year but I also recreated the Senior Awards Evening covers for Senior graduation. I have many tutorials to post but I’ll start with a “Making a…” first with one object you can see in the picture.

Buttons are Back

I received a job some while ago to redesign the API score badge. I took some time to design two (for now) new versions of the badge. One is presented as a target. The other is designed as arrows interacting with each other to form their opposites through negative space. There might also be a new tutorial soon.

UPDATE: The Gallery page was enhanced (fixed icons) to accommodate new pages such as the WallPapers page and the Photos page.

More Logos

Just another logo I made, I plan to make my usual 10 for my last year in the Mac Lab. I will update all my pages since they are all last year’s work.

I’m also involved in doing a secret project with Phillip.

Update 2

Sorry hat I haven’t posted in a while but I will make it up.

ZIPBUDS: So you’ve probably heard that I helped with the ZipBuds ad if you’ve read the Mac Lab post a week ago. I did help in a small part (helping make 3-D version of a company’s  icon vector file). I was asked if I could manage it to make a 3-D Extruded ZipBud icon by Steven Moyer  (alum). Though it was tricky to bypass the grey boxes you get from glows/effects, I saved day by using clipping masks. Phillip also tried to do an extruded Zipbud but failed (again grey boxes from Zipbuds) but he manage to make a good psd version. Either way, Steven Moyer still had a hard time impelling 3-D objects into Aftereffects so you won’t see it in the ad.

I didn’t just helped with the icon dilemma. I also helped in the practice shootings for the commercial in the Summer and the start of Spring semester. It was really fun shooting those silly scenes at school. At lunch time, we ate mostly pizza or just go to Alberto’s.

ELAC: I was also tasked with doing a poster and logo for  English Learner Advisory Council. Since I didn’t choose the job, only assigned, I procrastinated a lot (2 weeks) till I managed to make something good.  Just making a logo for something related to english learners was tricky enough.

DEVIANTART: I made my icons available to download on DeviantArt and I was slightly surprised by the outcome. Currently, each of my four icons (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and Waterfox) averaging 50 70 downloads each. But I also fixed my icon shelves so it’s symmetrical horizontally and vertically. Download if you wish by clicking this link to my DeviantArt page.

ican make icons

First of all, my Math Club poster did get printed —I’m surprised too. Skocko printed 5 that I asked for and I delivered them to 5 math teachers. They loved it.

Second, I spend some of my time designing icons-which I will upload on Deviant-Art if anyone wants to download them. I use IcoFx to convert them for different operating systems.

I’m also making a t-shirt design to try to win some money.

Poster Update

The math poster has been fix and finished. All I want though, for these past days, is to get them printed. But Skocko has failed me in this request but I am partly to blame too. I gave him the file on Tuesday yet he forgot to print it. The next day, he opened the  file to find non-outlined text (and a missing embedded image) and so he didn’t print it Wednesday. He didn’t print the poster on Thursday since he couldn’t find the file even though it was on his laptop. I doubt it will get printed today either and I want to have it up before this upcoming Tuesday since that is the day the Math Club will meet again.

Hopefully, the poster will turn out alright.

Also, I’ll put up my vectored pencil if anyone wants it. Download via Box.net.
